Over the years, I've written and provided illustrations for a few climbing-related books. Some are more just projects that I dabble in and never pursue getting them published, but a couple have actually seen the light of day.

This guidebook was published in December of 1996 by Chockstone Publishing (bought out by Falcon Publishing a few years later). It is a guide to climbing areas in and around the Phoenix Metro area. I inherited the project from the author of the original Phoenix Rock, Jim Waugh. Quite a few of these areas are now limited or outright off limits because of radical development over the years since it was published, but it looks like some of the climbing will be saved.

I wrote and self-published this Superstitions Select guide in 1998 as a way of trying to provide some climbing information to the public so we could maintain a presence for climbers out in the Superstition Mountains, east of Phoenix. I hand produced all copies of the book, basically in my living room at the time. After a few hundred copies, I sort of got burned out on chopping, trimming, punching, etc. and declared it out of print.

Flash forward to 2008. The internet has come of age and there are quite a few options out there for self-publishing books, some of which are fairly reasonably practical. This book was simply a test run using the content of the 1998 Supes Select guide to see how it would come out. Turned out pretty good. I have been working on a full guide to the Superstitions for about 12 years now. If I finish it one of these days, I'll self-publish it using this same process.

This book doesn't actually exist. it's really just a bound version of my own notes on the routes and climbing at Granite Mountain near Prescott, AZ. No intention on taking that any farther, although I might run a few copies through one of the internet book makers if I ever get it cleaned up and organized. Work in progress.

This book is an 8.5" x 11" format photo book on Granite Mountain. Also never published, another test run on one of the internet book makers to see how the quality would turn out. Have to say, it turned out very nicely! I had a few copies made for friends, but have no real intention on taking public.

I didn't write these two books (two editions of the same book, actually), but I provided technical illustrations for them for some of the techniques laid out in the book. These are excellent books on learning to climb faster and more efficiently (as Hans says, "...the only thing better than climbing is MORE climbing!"
